Warrensburg Not Selected For D.R.E.A.M. Initiative

Warrensburg, MO - The Board of Directors of Warrensburg Main Street, Inc. received word this week that the City of Warrensburg was not among the group of designees for the Downtown Revitalization Economic Assistance program announced earlier this year.

Joyce Michael, Board President, said she was disappointed that Warrensburg's application was not selected as one of the ten winners in the program, however the community had a lot to gain from going through the application process.

"Main Street and the City worked closely together to gather material, ideas were formulated into plans to improve the Central Business District, the need for affordable and renovated housing was addressed, and ideas came forth for links between current downtown and historic downtown." She said.

"We have the opportunity to apply again next year, but we should not just sit and wait," she added.  "The State is offering workshops and guidance, which we should take advantage of.   Main Street will pursue funding for Phase 3 of the downtown streetscape program and continue working closely with the City to accomplish the goals and dreams that surfaced during the D.R.E.A.M. application process."

Warrensburg’s D.R.E.A.M. Initiative Application Submitted

Warrensburg, MO - Warrensburg Main Street, Inc., downtown Warrensburg's revitalization organization, has completed and submitted its application for Missouri’s D.R.E.A.M. Initiative.

With the assistance of staff from the City of Warrensburg, Dr. Scott Roland, Executive Director of Warrensburg Main Street, Inc., delivered the final report to the Missouri Department of Economic Development in Jefferson City yesterday.

The D.R.E.A.M initiative is a comprehensive, streamlined approach to downtown revitalization that provides a one-stop shop of technical and financial assistance for select communities in Missouri to more efficiently and effectively engage in the downtown revitalization process.  The Downtown Revitalization Economic Assistance for Missouri allows these communities access to the technical and financial assistance necessary to accomplish their downtown revitalization plans.

This unique new tool reduces the complexity involved in financing downtown revitalization plans through a coordinated approach.  It centralizes several major state incentives, offers direct access to financial technical assistance at the preliminary proposal stage, is supported by a team of professionals specifically dedicated to helping a community rebuild its central business district, and substantially shortens the redevelopment timeline.

More information on this initiative is available online at www.dream.mo.gov.
